Harish starts from his home, walks towards South to Garden which is 8 ft away. He turns left at 90° and walks to Flower Shop which is 6 ft away, turns right and goes 10 ft to reach the School. Find the minimum distance between Flower shop and Harish’s Home?

We have to find the distance between Flower Shop and Home.

We will give notations like,

Garden = G

Home = H

School = S

Flower Shop = F

From the diagram we know that,

HG = 8 ft

GF = 6 ft

FS = 10 ft

Here, minimum distance is asked. So, we need to find it by Pythagoras theorem.

Using Pythagoras theorem,

(HF)² = (HG)² + (GF)²

(HF)² = (8)² + (6)²

(HF)² = 64 + 36 = 100 ft

HF = 10 ft
