It can be tricky if you're working with ceramic tile. Ceramic tile is very hard, but it's also brittle, so you have to work carefully if you don't want to shatter it. That's because it's made mostly of clay, with a thin layer of porcelain on top. When it's fired and then cools down, the clay cools at a different rate than the porcelain layer on top, which creates small stresses in the tile.
