Bird food can be either a seed mix or pellets. The pellets often contain the same seeds as the mix, but have been ground up and extruded into nuggets. This prevents birds selectively eating the seeds and having an unbalanced diet. Typical seeds included are sunflower, millet, hemp, safflower, thistle, corn, wheat, and milo.
