A goods train and a passenger train are running in same distance with a speed in the ratio of 7 : 9. The driver of the goods train observed that the passenger train coming from backward difference and crossed his train completely in 80 sec whereas a passenger on the passenger train observed that he crossed the goods train in 55 sec; Find the ratio of their length?

Option 4 : 16 : 11

Given:

Ratio of speeds of goods train and passenger train = 7 ∶ 9

Time taken by the driver of the goods train to observe the passenger train = 80 seconds

Time taken by the driver of the passenger train to observe the goods train = 55 seconds

Formula Used:

Distance = Time/Speed

Ratio of the lengths of the trains ∝ Time taken by the respective trains

Calculation:

(Passenger train length)/(Goods train length) = 80/55

Hence the ratio of their lengths = 80 ∶ 55 = 16 ∶ 11

∴ The ratio of their lengths = 16 ∶ 11
