GIVEN:
Avearge of a team = Average 3 years ago

Average age of players who left = 34 yrs

FORMULA USED:

Average = sum of observations/total number of observations

CALCULATION:

Let the present average age of the team be x and the sum of ages of newcomers be y

Total age = 11x

Total age 3 years ago = 11x - 33

Total age of outgoing players = 34 × 2 = 68 yrs

Total age of remaining 9 players = 11x - 68

Sum after newcomers joined = 11x - 68 + y

11x - 33 = 11x - 68 + y

y = 35 yrs

Required average = 35/2 = 17.5 yrs

∴ The average age is 17.5 years.

Total age of youngsters = 34 × 2 - 11 × 3 = 35 yrs

Required average = 35/2 = 17.5 yrs
