Given:

Ashwin's rank is 61.

Calculation:

60 students performed better than him.

According to the question,

60 = 3 × Number of students who have done worse

⇒ Number of students who have done worse = 60/3

⇒ Number of students who have done worse = 20

Total number of students,

⇒ 20 + 60 + 1

⇒ 81

∴ Total number of students is 81.

Mistake Points

Here, No. of students = 20 + 60 + 1 (Ashwin) and not 20 + 60 as we have to count Ashwin also in the total count since 20 students performed worse than him and 60 students perform better than him.
