Assuming your rug is small and does not have a rubber backing, you can put the rug in your washing machine. If your rug has stains on it, you should work on the stains prior to putting the rug in the washing machine. To remove stains, you can mix equal parts vinegar and water with 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent. Work the solution into the stain and blot the stain until it is removed. You may need to let stubborn stains soak with the solution for 20 minutes prior to blotting with a rag.
