Avloquin-H Tablet 200 mg is an antimalarial drug used to treat certain types of parasites in the body. It is also used to prevent or treat certain autoimmune diseases, such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Mechanism of Action

Avloquin-H Tablet 200 mg works by suppressing the immune system, decreasing inflammation, and preventing the growth of certain parasites within the body’s cells. It is not known exactly how it works, but it is thought to interfere with communication between cells within the immune system.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

It typically takes up to three weeks for Avloquin-H Tablet 200 mg to begin working. However, the full effect may take up to three months.

Absorption

Avloquin-H Tablet 200 mg is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Route of Elimination

The major route of elimination is by the kidney, with 70-80% of the administered dose excreted in the urine, and the remainder excreted in the feces.

Dosage

Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate tablets are for oral administration and are taken with food to avoid stomach upset.

Acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis: 400 to 600 mg daily. When good response is obtained (usually 4 to 8 weeks), dose can be reduced to 50%.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): 400 mg once or twice daily for several weeks or months depending on response of the patients. Maintenance dose is 200 to 400 mg daily.

Malaria: In adults, an initial dose of 800 mg followed by 400 mg in 6-8 hours and 400 mg on each of two consecutive days. For children a total dose representing 25 mg/kg is administered in 3 days as follows.

First dose: 10 mg base/kg (but not exceeding a single dose of 620 mg base).
Second dose: 5 mg base/kg (but not exceeding a single dose of 310 mg base) 6 hours after first dose.
Third dose: 5 mg base/kg 18 hours after second dose.
Fourth dose: 5 mg base/kg 24 hours after third dose.

Dosage depends on the condition being treated, age, and weight of the patient. It is typically prescribed in either the tablet or liquid forms. Typical dosage for adults with malaria is 800 mg initially, followed by 400 mg 12 hours later, on the same day. The dosage for ongoing treatment is 400 mg daily for up to two weeks or more. The dosage for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus is 400-600 mg daily for three to four months.

Administration
