Two friends Alak and Aman live 320 miles away from each other. Alak starts her journey in train at 9 a.m. and travels towards Aman’s place at 70 miles per hour. After two hours Aman being unaware of this starts his journey from his place on train and travels towards Alak’s place at 20 miles per hour. At what time will the two meet?

Given,

Distance between Alak and Aman = 320 miles

Speed of Alak = 70 miles/hrs

Speed of Aman = 20 miles/hrs

Formula:

Speed = Distance/time

Calculation:

Distance covered by Alak in 2 hrs = 70 × 2 = 140 miles

⇒ Remaining distance = 320 – 140 = 180 miles

Relative speed of Alak and Aman if they run in opposite direction = 70 + 20 = 90 miles/hr

⇒ They meet each other after = 180/90 = 2 hrs

∴ Required time = 9 am + 2 hr + 2 hr = 1 pm
