Given below are two quantities named I and II. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose among the possible answers. Quantity I: Three years ago, the ratio of A and B’s age was 2 : 3 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio becomes 4 : 5. Find the present age of A. Quantity II: The ratio of ages of A and B is 4 : 5. The age difference between A and B is 5 years. What is the age of B?
Given below are two quantities named I and II. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose among the possible answers. Quantity I: Three years ago, the ratio of A and B’s age was 2 : 3 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio becomes 4 : 5. Find the present age of A. Quantity II: The ratio of ages of A and B is 4 : 5. The age difference between A and B is 5 years. What is the age of B? Correct Answer Quantity I < Quantity II
Quantity I
Let the age of A and B three years ago be 2x and 3x respectively
⇒ (2x + 6) / (3x + 6) = 4 / 5
⇒ 10x + 30 = 12x + 24
⇒ x = 3
Present age of A = 2x + 3 = 9 years
Quantity II
Let the present age of A and B be 4x and 5x years respectively
⇒ 5x – 4x = 5
⇒ x = 5
Present age of B = 5 × 5 = 25 years
∴ Quantity I < Quantity II
