Given:

Weight of fresh orange = 52 kg

Percentage of water in fresh orange = 97%

Percentage of water in dried orange = 22%

Concept Used:

Quantity of pulp in fresh fruit is equal to the quantity of pulp in dried fruit.

Calculations:

Let the weight of dried fruit and fresh fruit be x kg and y kg respectively.

Percentage of pulp in fresh orange = (100 – 97)% = 3%

Percentage of pulp in dried orange = (100 – 22)% = 78%

Quantity of pulp in fresh fruit = Quantity of pulp in dried fruit

⇒ 3% of x = 78% of y

⇒ 3/100 × 52 = (78/100) × y

⇒ y = 2 kg

⇒ Quantity of dry orange = 2 kg

In dry orange,

Quantity of pulp = 78%

⇒ Quantity of pulp = 2 × 78/100 = 1.56 kg

∴ The quantity of pulp in dry orange is obtained by Sohail is 1.56 kg.
