A Bus is running at a speed of 80 km/h. After 2 hours of journey its tyre punctured and the speed decreased by 25% and the Bus reached its destination 1 hour late. If the total journey took total 3 hours due to tyre puncture, then what is the total distance covered by the Bus?
A Bus is running at a speed of 80 km/h. After 2 hours of journey its tyre punctured and the speed decreased by 25% and the Bus reached its destination 1 hour late. If the total journey took total 3 hours due to tyre puncture, then what is the total distance covered by the Bus? Correct Answer None of these
Given:
Speed of Bus = 80 km/h
Decrease in speed = 25%
Time by which Bus is late = 1 hour
Time for which Bus travelled at 80 km/h = 2 hours
Formula used:
Speed = Distance/Time
Calculations:
Decreased speed of Bus = 80 - (80 × 25%)
⇒ 80 - 20
⇒ 60 km/h
Total Distance covered = Distance covered at 80 km/h + Distance covered at 60 km/h
⇒ (80 × 2) + (60 × 1)
⇒ 160 + 60
⇒ 220 km
∴ The total distance covered by the Bus is 220 km.
