A light ray incidents on a plane mirror with incident angle θ. What will be reflected angle and angle of deviation for this light ray respectively?
A light ray incidents on a plane mirror with incident angle θ. What will be reflected angle and angle of deviation for this light ray respectively? Correct Answer θ, 180 - 2θ
CONCEPT:
- Plane Mirror: A mirror with a flat reflective surface is known as a plane mirror.
- According to the law of reflection, the incident ray, reflected ray, and the normal to the mirror, all lie on the same plane.
- Also the angle of the incident (i) = angle of reflection (r)
- The deviation angle is given by:
⇒ δ = 180 - (i + r)

CALCULATION:
Given that i = θ
so angle of the incident (i) = angle of reflection (r)
⇒ Reflected angle (r) = i = θ
⇒ Deviation angle (δ) = 180 - (i + r)
⇒ δ = 180 - (θ + θ)
⇒ δ = 180 - 2θ
- So the correct answer is option 3.
