The circumference of the base of a conical tent is 132 m. If the height of the tent is 20 m, then what is the area of the canvas used in making the tent?  Correct Answer 1914 sq.m

Given:

Circumference of base = 132 m

Height = 20 m

Concept:

The area of the canvas required to make a tent is equal to the C.S.A of the cone.

Formula used:

C.S.A of cone = πrl

Circumference of circle = 2πr

Calculation:

2 × 22/7 × r = 132

⇒ r = (132 × 7)/(2 × 22) = 21 cm

h = 20 m

l = √ 202 + 212

l = 29 m

C.S.A = 22/7 × 21 × 29 = 1914 sq.m

∴ The area is 1914 sq.m
