There are two alloys in the first alloy zinc, copper, and aluminum are in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5, and in the second alloy the ratio of zinc and copper is 1 : 2. If 24 kg of the first alloy and x kg of the second alloy are mixed, the amount of copper in the mixture becomes 20 kg. What is the value of x?
There are two alloys in the first alloy zinc, copper, and aluminum are in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5, and in the second alloy the ratio of zinc and copper is 1 : 2. If 24 kg of the first alloy and x kg of the second alloy are mixed, the amount of copper in the mixture becomes 20 kg. What is the value of x? Correct Answer 18 kg
GIVEN:
zinc : copper : aluminium (first alloy) = 3 : 4 : 5
zinc : copper (second alloy) = 1 : 2
Weighta of first alloy mixed = 24 kg
Copper in mixture = 20 kg
EXPLANATION:
For alloy 1,
Amount of copper in 24 kg = 24/12 × 4 = 8 kg
For alloy 2,
Amount of copper = x/3 × 2 = 2x/3 kg
A.T.Q
8 + 2x/3 = 20 kg
⇒ 2x/3 = 12
⇒ x = 18 kg
