 In first lot, Rohan purchased 11 articles for Rs. 12 and sold 12 articles of the same type for Rs 11. In second lot, Shyam purchased 16 articles for Rs. 15 and sold 15 articles of same  type for Rs. 16. What is the profit/loss percentage for Rohan and Shyam respectively? Correct Answer 15.97% Loss, 13.77% Profit

Given:

Rohan purchased 11 articles for Rs. 12 and sold 12 articles of the same type for Rs 11

Shyam purchased 16 articles for Rs. 15 and sold 15 articles of same  type for Rs. 16.

Formula used:

Profit % = × 100%

Loss % = × 100%

Calculation:

According to the question,

Cost price of 11 Articles = Rs. 12

Cost price of 1 Article = Rs. 12/11

Selling price of 12 Article = Rs. 11

Selling price of 1 Article = Rs. 11/12

Loss = 12/11 - 11/12 = (144 - 121)/132 = 23/132

Loss% = (23/132) × 100 × 11/12 = 2300/144 = 15.97%

Loss% of Rohan = 15.97%

Again,

Cost price of 16 Articles = Rs. 15

Cost price of 1 Article = Rs. 15/16

Selling price of 15 Article = Rs. 16

Selling price of 1 Article = Rs. 16/15

Profit = 16/15 - 15/16 = (256 - 225)/240 = 31/240

Profit% = (31/240) × 100 × 16/15 = 13.77%

∴ Profit of Shyam = 13.77%

∴ The profit/loss percentage for Rohan and Shyam is 15.97% and 13.77% respectively.
