In what ratio must a grocer mix two varieties of tea worth Rs. 60 a kg and Rs. 65 a kg, so that by selling the mixture at Rs. 71.3 a kg he may gain 15%? Correct Answer 3 : 2

Given:

Selling price of the mixture = Rs.71.3/kg

Profit percent = 15%

Formula used:

Profit percent = × 100

⇒ 15 = × 100

⇒ 15 CP = 7130 - 100 CP

⇒ 115 CP = 7130

⇒ CP = Rs.62/kg

Let the quantity of first variety of tea = x

Let the quantity of second variety of tea = y

According to the question:

60× x + 65× y = (x + y) 62

60x + 65y = 62x + 62y

3y = 2x

x : y = 3 : 2

∴ The required ratio is 3 : 2
