P, Q and R together invested Rs. 50,000 for a business. P subscribed Rs. 4,000 more than Q while Q subscribed Rs. 5,000 more than R. What will be P's share if the total profit is Rs. 25,000 at the end of the year? Correct Answer Rs. 10,500
Given:
Total profit = Rs.25000
Formula used:
Profit = Investment × Time
Calculation:
Let the amount invested by R = Rs.y
Let the amount invested by Q = Rs.y + Rs.5000
Similarly, the amount invested by P = Rs.y + Rs.5000 + Rs.4000 = Rs.y + Rs.9000
According to the question:
Rs.y + Rs.y + Rs.5000 + Rs.y + Rs.9000 = Rs.50000
⇒ 3y = 50000 - 14000
⇒ y = 36000/3 = 12000
P's capital = Rs.21000
Q's capital = Rs.17000
R's capital = Rs.12000
Ratio of the profit:
P : Q : R
⇒ 21000 × 1 : 17000× 1 : 12000 × 1
⇒ 21 : 17 : 12
Profit earned by P = 25000 × 21/50 = 10500
∴ P's share = Rs.10500
