Bimal brought a packet of candies on his birthday. He gave one-third to John, one-fourth to Radha, one-fifth to Sushmita and one-sixth to Miku. He ate remaining 6 candies. How many candies were there in the packet? Correct Answer 120

Solution:

Let the total candies bought by Bimal is x.

The candies he gave to John = x/3

The candies he gave to Radha = x/4

The candies he gave to Sushmita = x/5

The candies he gave to Miku = x/6

After distributing the candies , remaining candies are 6.

So, x - (x/3 + x/4 + x/5 + x/6) = 6

⇒ x - = 6

⇒ 60x - 57x = 6 × 60

⇒ 3x = 360

⇒ x = 120

Hence the total candies in the packet is 120.
