A man travels 434 km, partly by rail and partly by steamer, He spends 8 hours more time on steamer, If the velocity of the steamer is 25 km/hr and the velocity of rail is 65 km/hr, how much distance does he cover by steamer? Correct Answer 265 km

Total distance travelled by man = D = 434 Km

Velocity of the steamer = SS = 25 km/hr

Velocity of the rail = SR = 65 km/hr

Let, time taken by man while travelling in Rail = T

Now

Man spend 8 hour more time on steamer then in rail

time taken by man while travelling in steamer = T + 8

We know that Speed = Distance/Time

⇒ D = SS (T + 8) + SR (T)

⇒ 434 = 25(T + 8) + 65T

⇒ 90T = 234

⇒ T = 2.6 hour

Distance travelled by man in steamer = 25 (T + 8) = 25(2.6 + 8) = 25 × 10.6 = 265 km

Hence, Man cover 265 distance by steamer.
