A and B together can complete a work in 20 days. They started together but after 4 days A left the work. The remaining work was completed by B alone in 24 more days. In how many days can A complete the entire work alone? Correct Answer 60

(A + B) can complete a work in = 20 days

∴ (A+B)’s 1 day’s work = 1/20       …… (1)

∴ (A+B)’s 4 day’s work = 4/20 = 1/5

∴ Remaining work = 1 - 1/5 = 4/5

∴ B completes 4/5 work in = 24 days

∴ B can complete the work in = 24 × 5/4 = 30 days

∴ B’s 1 day’s work = 1/30         …… (2)

From (1) and (2) we get,

A’s 1 day’s work,

⇒ 1/20 - 1/30

⇒ (3 - 2)/60

⇒ 1/60

∴ A can complete the work in = 60 days
