Given below are two quantities named A & B. Based on the given information, you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose between the possible answers. Quantity A: A truck running at 46 km/hr crosses a man moving along the road at 8 km/hr. The man could see the truck up to x seconds. Find the value of x, if the distance of truck from man is 1.7 km at the time of disappearance. Quantity B: A bike is 260 meter behind a car, in how much time it will be 580 meter ahead of the car, if their speeds are 48 km/hr and 30 km/hr respectively?

Correct Answer Quantity A < Quantity B

Quantity A:

∵ Speeds of truck and the man are 46 km/hr and 8 km/hr respectively;

∴ Relative speed = 46 – 8 = 38 km/hr

∵ The distance of truck from man is 1.7 km at the time of disappearance;

∴ 1.7 = 38 × (x/3600)

⇒ x = 161.05 seconds

Quantity B:

∵ Speeds of bike and car are 48 km/hr and 30 km/hr respectively;

∴ Relative speed = 48 – 30 = 18 km/hr = 18 × 5/18 = 5 m/sec

Distance to be covered by bike = 260 + 580 = 840 meter

∴ Time = 840/5 = 168 seconds

∴ Quantity A < Quantity B
