Suppose there were n number of person in the family. As, consumption of wheat per month is equal to 6 times the square of the number of persons of the family

⇒ Initial consumption = 6n2

⇒ Consumption after the death of a person = 6 (n - 1)2

Now, as consumption reduce by 30 kg

⇒ 6n2 − 6(n - 1)2 = 30

⇒ n2 − (n - 1)2 = 5

⇒ n2 − (n2 - 2n + 1) = 5

⇒ 2n - 1 = 5

⇒ n = 6/2 = 3

∴ There were 3 person in the family before the car accident
