For the zero-force member in the truss:
two forces act at a joint and they are not the same line, then each force must be zero provided there is no external load at that joint.
If three forces act at a joint and two of them are in same line, then the third force must be zero provided no external force at the joint.
Therefore, member BI is a zero – force member.
Similarly, CI, HC, DH, GD, EG are also zero – force member.
Since load P and the member AB are collinear, therefore, member AI, IH, HG and GF are also zero – force member.
Hence, the total number of zero – force member in the given truss is 10.
