Two cars, Car 1 and Car 2 start simultaneously towards each other from X and Y respectively with respective speeds of 20 m/s and 15 m/s. After meeting Car 2, Car 1 reaches Y in 10 seconds. In how many seconds does Car 2 reach X from Y approximately? Correct Answer 31.1

Let the two Cars have met at point ‘O’.

Car 1 travels the distance OY in 10 seconds

∴ OY = 10 × 20 = 200 m

Time for which Car 2 travels to reach point ‘O’ = 200 /15 seconds

Since the time taken by both the car 1 and car 2 to reach O, is equal.

∴ XO = 20 × (200/15) = 800/3

Time taken by Car 2 to reach X = (800/3 + 200)/ 15 = 31.1 seconds
