Each question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given in the statement is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose the best possible answer. The diagram shown below shows the dimensions of the park. Two teams i.e. team I and team II were cleaning the two different parts of the park. Find which team cleaned the more area and by how much area. I there were more men in team I than team II II AD = AB = 6 unit
I there were more men in team I than team II II AD = AB = 6 unit Correct Answer The statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, but the statement I alone is not sufficient.
For the solution we have to calculate the area of triangle ACD and triangle ABC
From statement I
Number of men is not required for calculating the area we need.
From statement II
AD = AB = 6 Now ADC is right triangle so AC will be 10
Area of triangle ADC
⇒ 1/2 × 8 × 6
⇒ 24 sq. unit
Area of triangle ABC
⇒ {s (s – a) (s – b) (s – c)}1/2
⇒ {13 (13 – 10) (13 – 10) (13 – 6)}1/2
⇒ {13) × (3) × (3) × (7)}1/2
⇒ 3 × 9.6
⇒ 28.8 sq. unit
Group II will clean more area by 28.8 – 24 = 4.8 sq. unit
∴ The statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, but the statement I alone is not sufficient.
