Garima and her sister together can paint the walls of their house in 45 days. If Garima alone did the job, it would have taken her 81 days. If the duo started painting together but Garima’s sister had to leave 9 days before the completion of the work, how many days in all would it take the sisters to paint their house?

If the duo started painting together but Garima’s sister had to leave 9 days before the completion of the work, how many days in all would it take the sisters to paint their house? Correct Answer 49
As we know,
Efficiency is inversely proportional to time
Efficiency ratio of Garima and (Garima’s sister + Garima) = 45 : 81 = 5 : 9
Efficiency of Garima’s sister + Garima = 9
Efficiency of Garima’s sister = 9 – 5 = 4
Total work = 45 × 9 = 405
Let the work be completed in x days
According to the question
⇒ 5x + 4(x – 9) = 405
⇒ 9x – 36 = 405
⇒ x = 49 days
