A ray of light passes through four transparent media with refractive index n1, n2, n3 and n4 as shown. The surfaces of all media are parallel If the emergent ray DE is parallel to incident ray AB, then Correct Answer n1 = n4
CONCEPT:
- When light rays travel from one medium to another then it gets deviated from its original path. This phenomenon is called refraction of light.
EXPLANATION:
- During refraction of light, the incident rays and emergent rays will be parallel only when the two medium will have same refractive index.
- So emergent ray DE will be parallel to AB only when n1 will be equal to n4. Hence option 1 is correct.
