Correct Answer Rs. 260
A private taxi company charges a fixed charge along with a per kilometre charge based on the distance covered. For a journey of 24 km, the charges paid are Rs. 368 and for a journey of 32 km, the charges paid Rs. 464.
Let, the fixed charge be ‘a’ and charge per km be ‘b’.
According to question:
a + 24b = 368 ---- (I)
a + 32b = 464 ---- (II)
(II) - (I), we get:
32b - 24b = 96
8b = 96
b = 12
If we put the value of ‘b’ in equation (I), we get:
a + 24 × 12 = 368
a = 368 - 288
a = 80
For travelling a distance of 15 km, a person will have to pay Rs. (a + 15b) = Rs. (80 + 15 × 12) = Rs. (80 + 180) = Rs. 260.
Hence, ‘260’ is the correct answer.
