GIVEN:
Average number of books of 4 subjects Maths, English, Hindi and Science in library P is 77.
The average of the total number of books of 4 subjects in library P and that in library Q is 348.
CONCEPT:
Basic concept of Average.
FORMULA USED:
Average = Sum/Total numbers
CALCULATION:
Suppose the number of Math, English, Hindi, and Science books in library P are w, x, y, and z respectively.
⇒ Number of English books in library Q = (x + 5)
⇒ Number of Science books in library Q = (z + 23)
Suppose the number of Hindi and Math books in library Q is ‘a’ and ‘b’ respectively.
Now,
(w + x + y + z) = 77 × 4
⇒ (w + x + y + z) = 308 ----(i)
And
(x + 5 + z + 23 + a + b) + (w + x + y + z) = 348 × 2 = 696
From equation (i):
⇒ (x + 5 + z + 23 + a + b) + 308 = 696
⇒ (x + z + a + b) = 360 ----(ii)
Subtracting equation (i) from equation (ii):
⇒ (a + b) – (w + y) = 360 – 308 = 52
∴ There are 52 more Hindi and Math books in library Q than in library P.
