Pipe A, B and C can fill a tank in 30 hrs, 20 hrs and 10 hrs respectively. If all three pipes open simultaneously and worked for 4 hrs, then after pipe B and C are closed, then find in how many hrs the remaining tank will full?

Pipe A, B and C can fill a tank in 30 hrs, 20 hrs and 10 hrs respectively. If all three pipes open simultaneously and worked for 4 hrs, then after pipe B and C are closed, then find in how many hrs the remaining tank will full? Correct Answer 8 hrs

Given:

Pipe A can fill a tank in = 30 hrs

Pipe B can fill a tank in = 20 hrs

Pipe C can fill a tank in = 10 hrs

Formula:

Total work = Efficiency × Time

Calculation:

Total work = 60 unit     (LCM of 30, 20, and 10)

Efficiency of A = 2 units/hr

Efficiency of B = 3 units/hr

Efficiency of C = 6 units/hr

Total efficiency of A, B and C = 2 + 3 + 6 = 11 units/hr

Work done by A, B and C in 4 hrs = 11 × 4 = 44 units

Remaining work = 60 – 44 = 16 units

∴ Time taken to fill the remaining tank if only pipe A works = 16/2 = 8 hrs
