Two students A and B are paid a total of Rs. 4, 400 as prize money. If A is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to B, how much is B paid (in Rs.) ? Correct Answer 2,000

Given:

A and B are paid Rs. 4400

A = 120% of B

Concept used:

Total = xA + yB

x and y are ratio

Calculation:

A = 120% of B

⇒ A = 6/5 of B

⇒ 5A = 6B

⇒ A/B = 6/5

⇒ A : B = 6 : 5

A + B = Rs. 4400

⇒ 11 → 4400

⇒ 1 → 400

⇒ 5 → 2000

⇒ B = Rs. 2000

∴ B paid Rs. 2000
