A hare spots a dog 100 m away and starts running away from it at 12 km/h. One minute later, the dog gives a chase at 16 km/h speed. At what distance from the spot where the hare took to flight will the dog catch the hare?
A hare spots a dog 100 m away and starts running away from it at 12 km/h. One minute later, the dog gives a chase at 16 km/h speed. At what distance from the spot where the hare took to flight will the dog catch the hare? Correct Answer 1100 m
Speed of hare = 12 km/hr
Speed of dog = 16 km/hr
Relative speed, if same direction = 16 – 12 = 4 km/hr
Distance covered by hare in 1 min = 12 × 1000/60 = 200 m
Total distance = 100 + 200 = 300 m
Hare and dog meet each other in = (300/4) × (18/5) = 270 sec
Distance covered by dog in 270 sec = 16 × 5/18 × 270 = 1200 m
Distance from the spot where the hare took to fight will the dog catch the hare = 1200 – 100 = 1100
