Let, Age of Ashish be x.

Given:

Age of Ashish = 3 × Age of Varun → Ashish > Varun       _____ (1)

Age of Arvind = 1/2 × Age of Varun → Arvind < Varun      ______ (2)

Amit is 8 years older than Varun but 8 years younger to Ashish:

Ashish > Amit > Varun       _____ (3)

On combining (1), (2) and (3), we get:

Ashish > Amit > Varun > Arvind

Hence, ‘Amit’ is the second eldest.
