Out of the 12 players of a Kabaddi team, 7 players play at a time, while the remaining are reserved. In a Kabaddi team, the difference between the average weights of the players playing and the reserved players is 2.4 kg. If the average weight of the whole team is 75.5 kg, find the average weight of the reserved players.
Correct Answer 74.1 kg
Let the total weight of the players playing be ‘x’ kg and that of the reserved players be ‘y’ kg
Average weight of 7 players playing = (x/7) kg
Average weight of (12 – 7)= 5 reserved players = (y/5) kg
Given, difference between their average weights = 2.4 kg
⇒ (x/7) – (y/5) = 2.4
⇒ 5x – 7y = 2.4 × 35
⇒ 5x – 7y = 84 ----(1)
Also, average weight of whole team = 75.5 kg
⇒ Total weight of team = x + y = 75.5 × 12
⇒ x + y = 906 ----(2)
Multiplying (2) by 7 and adding to (1), we get,
⇒ 5x – 7y + 7x + 7y = 84 + 6342
⇒ 12x = 6426
⇒ x = 535.5 kg
Substituting in (2),
⇒ y = 906 – 535.5 = 370.5 kg
∴ Average weight of 5 reserved players = y/5 = 370.5/5 = 74.1 kg
