In a school there are three batches of players who play cricket, football and hockey. An incomplete chart of number of students playing an individual sport belonging to an individual batch is displayed in the following table :     Batch I   Batch II   Batch III   Total  Cricket players     8 14  Football players      10 16 Hockey players 6   6 17 Total         Which one of the following is correct ?  Correct Answer Batch I and Batch II do not have equal number of students

Hockey Players in batch II = 17 – (6 + 6) = 17 – 12 = 5

Total Play in Batch III = 8 + 10 + 6 = 24

Total players in all three sports  = 14 + 16 + 17 = 47

 Batch I

 Batch II

 Batch III

 Total

Cricket players

8

14

 Football players

10

16

Hockey players

6

5

6

17

Total

24

    47

Now Number of Football Player together Batch I and II = 16 – 10 = 6

Number of Cricket Player together Batch I and II = 14 – 8 = 6

Total Number of student in Batch I and II = 47 - 24 = 23

Now, See the options:

1) Batch II is empty → Not Correct (As we can see in above table number of hockey players in batch II is 5)

2) Batch I and Batch II do not have equal number of students → Correct (Total Number of student in Batch I and II is 23 so both batch I and II can not have equal number of students)

3) Batch I and Batch III can have equal number of students → Not Correct  (As we know in batch III there are 24 students and if we consider maximum number of students for Batch I that can be 6 + 6 + 6 = 18, So they can not have equal number of students)

4) Batch II and Batch III can have equal number of students → Not Correct  (As we know in batch III there are 24 students and if we consider maximum number of students for Batch II that can be 5 + 6 + 6 = 17, So they can not have equal number of students)

Hence, option 2) is the correct answer.
