The following question have three statements. Study the question and the statements and decide which of the statement(s) is/are necessary to answer the question. Three persons A, B and C work in a job. In how many days B alone can finish the job? Statement I: C alone can complete the whole job in 15 days. Statement II: A and B together can finish the job in 10 days. Statement III: The time taken by A is equal to the time taken by B and C together.
Correct Answer All the statements are required to answer the question.
Statement I and II:
Suppose the total amount of work = 30 units (LCM of 15 & 10)
∴ Efficiency of C = 30/15 = 2
Efficiency of (A + B) = 30/10 = 3
Statement III:
∵ The time taken by A is equal to the time taken by B and C together;
∴ Efficiency of A = Efficiency of (B + C)
Combining all three statements∶
Efficiency of A = 2.5 and Efficiency of B = 0.5
∴ Time taken by B to complete the job = 30/0.5 = 60 days
∴ All the statements are required to answer the question.
