Two balls A and B of same mass are rubbed together. A becomes positively charged and B negatively charged. As a result of rubbing Correct Answer the mass of A decreases while the mass of B increases
CONCEPT:
- Electric charge: It is an intrinsic property of the elementary particles of matter which gives rise to electric force between various objects.
- It is a scalar quantity.
- SI unit of electric charge is coulomb (C).
- The total charge on the conductor is given by q = It, when current flows through the conductor for some time.
Where I = current and t = time
- Charge always remain conserved.
- When a charged body comes near to a neutral body then an opposite nature charge is induced on the surface which is near to the charged body due to rearrangements of the electrons on the neutral body. This phenomenon is called the induction of charge.
- For example; a positively charged body comes near to a neutral body then the positive charge of the body will attract the free electrons of the neutral body and these electrons will accumulate on the surface of the neutral body near to the charged body.
- Thus some negative charge will be induced on the neutral body surface which is nearby the charged body due to the rearrangements of the free electrons.
EXPLANATION:
- As it is given in the question that both the ball have identical mass.
- When balls A and B are rubbed together, then ball A becomes positively charged and B gets negatively charged as a result of rubbing.
- During rubbing ball A lost some electrons in the process and similarly ball B gained electrons in order to get negatively charged.
- Therefore, the mass of ball B has increased and that of ball A has decreased and thus, the mass of ball A < mass of ball B.
