- These soils black in color and are also known as Regur soils.
- They are ideal for growing cotton, so they are also called 'black cotton soils.'
- Most of the Deccan is occupied by Black soil.

- Rich in: Iron, lime, calcium, potassium, aluminum and magnesium.
- Deficient in: Nitrogen, Phosphorous and organic matter.
- Black soil is of red colour mainly due to its iron oxide content.
- These soils are mainly found in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
