There are 12 Pink, 16 Brown and 20 black color caps in a box. If a cap is picked at random, what is the probability of having either a pink or a Black Cap? Correct Answer 2/3
Given:
Black color caps = 20
Brown color caps = 16
Pink color caps = 12
Formula Used:
P(E1 or E2) = P(E1) + P(E2)
Calculations:
Let E1, E2 be the event of picking a pink cap and black cap respectively.
Total no. of caps in a box = 12 + 16 + 20 = 48
E1 = 12 /48 = 1/4
E2 = 20 /48 = 5/12
P(E1 or E2) = P(E1) + P(E2)
P(E1 or E2) = 1/4 + 5/12
P(E1 or E2) = 2/3
Hence, 2/3 is the probability to select a pink or a black cap
