Which of the following is NOT an example of extrinsic motivation? Correct Answer Interest
Motivation: The term motivation has been derived from the Latin word ‘movere’, which means ‘to move. “the factors that direct and energize the behavior of humans and other organisms”.
Motivation is of two types, which are:
- Intrinsic Motivation.
- Extrinsic Motivation.
Key Points
Extrinsic motivation – When a task is instrumental in receiving or gaining access to the external reward. In all such situations, the locus of control is external to the person who is asked to undertake the activity. Such situations characterize the kind of motivation which is extrinsic.
- The sources of motivation are external in extrinsic motivation, such as rewards, parents, teachers, peers, gifts, likes by others, punishment by teachers, etc.
- In extrinsic motivation, the source of motivation doesn't come from the soul of the learner.
- This motivation is not longer than intrinsic motivation.
Hence, from the above points, we can conclude that interest is intrinsic motivation.
Hint
- Intrinsic Motivation: Intrinsic motivation can be defined as “motivation that comes from within a person and includes the elements of challenge, enjoyment, mastery, and autonomy”.
- Example: There could be an activity that an individual enjoys doing.
