The following question, there are three statements I, II and III. Read the question carefully and mark your answer according to which statements(s) is/are sufficient to the answer the question. Find the discount offered by the shopkeeper on each Kurta? Statement I: The sum of the marked price of 4kurtas is equal to the sum of total cost price of 8kurtas Statement II: The ratio of discount offered to the profit gained on each kurta is 1 : 2 Statement III: The sum of the selling price and the cost price of one kurta is Rs. 980. Correct Answer All I, II and III
From statement I,
M.P of 4 kurtas = C.P of 8 Kurtas
⇒MP = 2 CP ----(1)
From statement II
⇒ Discount/Profit = (MP - SP)/(SP - CP) = 1/2
⇒ 2 (MP - SP) = (SP - CP)
⇒ 2 MP - 2 SP = SP - CP
⇒ 2 MP - 3 SP = -CP ----(2)
Substituting Equation 2 in Equation 1, we get
⇒ 4 CP - 3 SP = -CP
⇒ 5CP = 3SP
⇒ CP = 3SP/5 ----(3)
From statement III
SP + CP = 980 ----(4)
From Equation 3 and 4, we get
⇒ SP + 3SP/5 = 980
⇒ 8 SP = 980 × 5
⇒ SP = 980 × 5/8
⇒ SP = Rs. 612.5
⇒ C.P = Rs. 612.5 × 3/5 = 367.5
From Equation 1,
MP = 2 CP = 2 × 367.5 = Rs. 735
Discount = MP - SP = 735 - 612.5 = Rs. 122.5
∴ All the three statements are required to answer the question
