A and B were two partners in a firm sharing profits in 3 ∶ 2. In the year 2015, the profit of the firm was Rs. 10000 which has been duly distributed among A and B. Later on they decided that C, their manager will also be treated as partner in the firm from beginning of year 2015 and will be entitled to 1/6 of the share in the firm. They decided to transfer 10% of the profits to general reserve. Redistribute the profits and find the amount of profit to be provided or taken back from B in new ratio.

They decided to transfer 10% of the profits to general reserve. Redistribute the profits and find the amount of profit to be provided or taken back from B in new ratio. Correct Answer Rs. 1000
Share of A and B in old ratio,
⇒ A has received = 3/5 of 10000 = 30000/5 = 6000
⇒ B has received = 2/5 of 10000 = 20000/5 = 4000
Now for new ratio, Let total share be 1
⇒ C’s share = 1 – (1/6) = 5/6
⇒ A’s new share = 3/5 of 5/6 = 3/6
⇒ B’s new share = 2/5 of 5/6 = 2/6
⇒ New ratio of A, B and C = 3 ∶ 2 ∶ 1
⇒ Amount of profit to be transferred to general reserve = 10% of 10000 = Rs. 1000
⇒ Profit left = 10000 – 1000 = Rs. 9000
Now, After Distribution of profit in new ratio,
⇒ A will get = 3/6 of 9000 = 9000/2 = Rs. 4500
⇒ B will get = 2/6 of 9000 = 9000/3 = Rs. 3000
⇒ C will get = 1/6 of 9000 = 9000/6 = Rs. 1500
⇒ Excess of B’s share in old ratio = 4000 – 3000 = Rs. 1000
∴ Rs. 1000 will be returned by B to firm
