Which of the following statements concerning temperature is/are correct? 1) In winter season isotherms in Northern Hemisphere are more or less circular on continents 2) Isotherms are parallel to latitude in Southern Hemisphere in oceans 3) Minimum temperature during winter is recorded in North Canada Select the correct answer using the code given below: Correct Answer 1, 2 and 3
All the statements are correct.
- An isotherm is a line on a map connecting points having the same temperature at a given time or on average over a given period.
- In the winter season, isotherms in Northern Hemisphere are more or less circular on continents because large landmasses in the Northern hemisphere cause isotherms to bend toward the equator in winter. Hence, Statement 1 is correct.
- Isotherms are parallel to latitude in Southern Hemisphere in oceans because in Southern Hemisphere there is a higher percentage of oceans as compared to land hence, there is less obstruction for winds and isotherms are parallel. Hence, Statement 2 is correct.
- Minimum temperature during winter is recorded in North Canada because it is near to north pole and cold winds coming from poles has a great effect on it. Hence, Statement 3 is correct.
