Which of the following predictions forms the basis of structural learning? I. Knowledge is actively created by the student, not passively acquired from the environment II. Coming to know is a process of adaptation based on and experienced by the student's world experience Correct Answer I and II
Knowledge is emerging as the key resource in the society. In a knowledge-based society, building a workforce with higher-order skills is essential. The learner is the problem-solver and constructs knowledge through participating in the learning process actively. Note that:
- Knowledge is actively constructed by the student, not passively received from the environment.
- Coming to know is a process of adaptation based on and constantly modified by student’s experience of the world.
- Connecting new idea with the previous knowledge/experience helps in constructing new knowledge. If one knows counting the objects, one can connect it to learn addition, but at this stage cannot directly learn percentage.
- By manipulating various objects and events in the immediate environment, one develops mental images and when one comes across a new object, one tries to interpret the new object in terms of the known objects.
Hence, we conclude that both the statements are correct.
