Kothari Commission (1964-66): Drawing on Nehru’s Mission and articulating most of his key themes, the Kothari Commission (1964-66) was set up under the Chairmanship of Dr. D. S. Kothari to formulate a coherent education policy for India. The Commission was most comprehensive in nature, it reviewed almost all aspects of the education system without limiting itself to any one particular aspect, unlike the Commissions that came before and after it.
Defects are pointed out by the Kothari Commission (1964-66) in the traditional curriculum of Mathematics:
- The present curriculum of mathematics is inadequate.
- Lack of creative and constructive activities.
- The curriculum is over packed.
- Lack of teaching methods and guidance and better supervision.
- No link between education and productivity
Important Points
Major recommendations of the Commission included an emphasis on Science and Mathematics, the introduction of work experience as an integral part of the school curriculum.
- Besides, there should be the provision of special courses in these subjects at the Secondary stage for students of more than average ability."
- Reforms on education were suggested to be achieved based on four-fold tasks like-increasing productivity, achieving national and social integration, accelerating the pace of modernization, and achieving social and national integration.
Hence, we can conclude that all the above statements are correct.
