A closed vessel is half-filled with water. There is a hole at the top of the vessel and air is pumped out from this hole. Then (a) The density of the liquid will decrease (b) The pressure at the surface of the water will decrease (c) The water level will rise up in the vessel (d) The force by the water on the bottom of the vessel will decrease Which of the above statements are correct?

Correct Answer (b) and (d) are correct
The correct answer is (b) and (d) are correct.
- If a closed vessel is half-filed with water and there is a hole at the top of the vessel and air is pumped out from this hole then the pressure at the surface of the water and the force by the water on the bottom of the vessel will decrease.
- The energy of the water on the bottom of the vessel is equal to the energy by the air plus the energy by the water.
- When the air is pumped out the force by the air is not present therefore the total force by the water on the bottom of the vessel decreases.
- When we take out the air from a closed vessel it becomes a vacuum thus pressure at the surface decreases and becomes zero.
- Since the vacuum is created therefore the pressure at the surface of the water will decrease.
