Which of the following is an LPG pipeline constructed by the Gas Authority of India? I. Jamnagar-Loni Pipeline II. Hajira-Bijapur-Jagdishpur Pipeline Correct Answer Both I and II
GAIL (India) Limited (previously known as Gas Authority of India Ltd.) is a government-owned natural gas corporation headquartered in GAIL Bhawan in New Delhi, India. Important Points
- GAIL is responsible for natural gas processing and distribution in India.
- It is owned by the Indian government's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
- Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline:
- On May 9, 2001, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will dedicate the Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline built by Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) to the country.
- The pipeline, which runs from Gujarat's Jamnagar to Uttar Pradesh's Loni, traverses through Gujarat (522 kilometres), Rajasthan (630 kilometres), Haryana (75 kilometres), Delhi (6 kilometres), and Uttar Pradesh (37 kms).
- The pipeline will transport LPG to IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation for marketing from Reliance Industries' refinery in Jamnagar and Indian Oil Corporation's (IOC) import location in Kandla. LPG will be evacuated in Rajasthan's Ajmer and Jaipur, Haryana's Piyala, Delhi's Madanpur-Khadar, and Uttar Pradesh's Loni.
- The Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ):
- This pipeline is India's first cross-state gas pipeline.
- The project began in 1986, with the formation of GAIL (India) Limited, with the goal of supplying gas to fertiliser facilities in Uttar Pradesh.
- The project's first phase, consisting of a 1,750-kilometer non-branched grid, was completed in 1987.
- Later, more branches were added to the system to supply gas for industrial and home usage in the states of Rajasthan, Haryana, and the National Capital Territory, bringing the total grid length to 3,474 kilometres.
- Indraprastha Gas Limited, a newly formed company, gained control of the Delhi branch of the pipeline in 1998 in order to construct a citywide gas system.
Therefore, both I and II are LPG pipelines constructed by the Gas Authority of India.
