A shopkeeper has almonds of two variants each pricing Rs. 400 per kg and Rs. 500 per kg respectively. If the shopkeeper mixes the cheap variant while selling the expensive one and earns a profit of Rs. 200 while selling 5 kg. In what ratio did the shopkeeper mixed the cheap almonds with the expensive? Correct Answer 2 ∶ 3
Given :
A shopkeeper has almonds of two variants each pricing Rs. 400 per kg and Rs. 500 per kg respectively.
Assumption :
Let the cheap almonds be x kg and expensive be (5 - x) kg
Calculation :
Price paid by the customer = Rs. 500 × 5 = Rs. 2500
Actual price of almonds = (5 - x) × 500 + x × 400 = 2500 - 100x
Money earned = 2500 - (2500 - 100x)
⇒ 2500 - (2500 - 100x) = 200
⇒ x = 2
∴ Required Ratio = 2/3 = 2 ∶ 3
