A fox takes 8 steps for every 4 steps of a bear cub, and 4 steps of fox are equal to 9 steps of the cub. What is the ratio of the speed of fox to that of cub?
A fox takes 8 steps for every 4 steps of a bear cub, and 4 steps of fox are equal to 9 steps of the cub. What is the ratio of the speed of fox to that of cub? Correct Answer 9 ∶ 2
Length of 9 steps of cub = distance covered in 4 steps by fox
Ratio of length covered by fox to cub in one step = 9 ∶ 4
Frequency of taking steps:
When fox takes steps 8 times, cub takes 4 steps.
∴ Ratio of frequency of taking steps of fox to cub = 8 ∶ 4
∴ Ratio of speed of fox to that of cub = Combined ratio = (9 × 8) ∶ (4 × 4) = 9 ∶ 2
